MeMoov is a free web application that allows you to animate characters, add a scene, add or record your own audio, insert text and then export it to video and share it online with friends by sending an url, uploading it to YouTube or share it on social networks such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. Also MeMoov creates a personal page for you in which you can watch and share the videos you have created before and the ones that are in progress, so your work is actually saved in their platform. It is a great tool to work on digital storytelling, develop production and animation skills and reinforce sequence order abilities. MeMoov allows you to choose and add elements and effects for your scene and it also allows you to zoom and move the camera around the scene for closer shots. Each character can have an action applied to it automatically with just one click. An email address is necessary to create a free account. I think this is a great free tool to get your students into animation and make learning fun for them while developing different skills like creativity, sequencing, collaboration and teamwork, directions, time management and problem solving. Another activity that can be done with this software is to upload the finished products to YouTube and allow other students and teachers to provide feedback on each student’s video. This will give students the opportunity to improve areas or concepts related to the subject and have another perspective other than the teacher’s. Allowing other people to view their work also increases motivation and self esteem. Click here to create your own movie easily without having any animation skills.

MeMoov seems like a cool application. The colors themselves are bright and inviting to children. The simplicity makes it approachable, and no doubt the usability will be easy. This should allow students as well as others to animate an object without having a deep concept of how to achieve that. With Adobe Flash you would need to take some classes or watch tutorial videos before using it, but with this it gives the person some sense of how to animate. Its good for someone who just wants to have fun, not create for professional reasons. Which makes it excellent in the classroom or at home.
After reading your comments and spending a little time on MeMoov, it seems like a nice tool to adapt for classroom use. It could serve as a starting point for sequencing, storytelling, poetry, etc. for students regardless of their age level. Having teacher-created custom cartoons delivering lesson segments/homework directions, etc, would certainly engage students more readily. After all, who doesn't like a good animated cartoon – particularly one made especially by/for them?
Taking this another step further, I am anxious to see when MeMoov releases its API version that can utilize uploaded artwork in its cartoons. My guess is that applications with that capability would be far more appealing not only to the education market, but beyond into simple business presentations.
Thanks!
Thanks for posting regarding Memoov. This was the first I'd heard about it. My first experience with an animation tool was with GoAnimate. I was really impressed with how easy it made it to create rich animations. I proposed it to an eLearning firm I volunteer for and they readily accepted it. Memoov appears to me more recent than GoAnimate. I see some similarities between the two. My initial look at Memoov gave me the impression that it follows a different coloring schema than GoAnimate which almost has very loud colors in comparison. Also the one animation video I watched in Memoov (Michael Phelp's interview) showed the characters having limited motion. But I would really need to spend more time with it, creating and publishing a video to be able to compare Memoov with GoAnimate.
